Everyone is welcome at Whaley 🐳

Following our AGM on Sunday, we’re proud to intr Following our AGM on Sunday, we’re proud to introduce the 2025/26 Whale Beach SLSC Executive, Management Committee, and Captains & Officers.
This season, our leadership team is united by one vision: a stronger, more resilient Whale Beach — where every patrol is strong, every member is valued and every visitor is protected by the most capable lifesaving team. Together, we’ll grow our membership, build capability across the beach and lift our standards higher than ever before.
‘This is our season and our opportunity to step up together.’ — Brett Babicci, 2025/26 President
Huge congratulations to former member, Mika, for r Huge congratulations to former member, Mika, for representing Australia at the U19 Rowing World Championships in the Women’s 8+ on Lake Galvė, Lithuania.
In the final, the crew battled incredible adversity when their cox box failed just 500m in — yet they rowed with immense grit, leading until the 1500m mark before finishing just 7 seconds behind the winners. An outstanding effort against the world’s best. We’re so proud of you, Mika, green and gold looks good on you!

We’re thrilled to share an exciting update on th We’re thrilled to share an exciting update on the transformation happening at the top of our clubhouse. Earlier this year, we leased the upper two levels of the club to the Merci Group, an experienced hospitality team behind beloved venues like Dunes in Palm Beach and Suki in Mona Vale.
Their newest venture? A complete reimagining of our historic venue – Mobys – set to open this summer. Mobys will be a vibrant, produce-led Italian restaurant and al fresco café, blending coastal charm with a modern twist. Expect handmade pastas, fresh seafood, perfectly grilled steak, and the kind of long, sun-drenched lunches Whale Beach is made for.
This exciting project wouldn’t be possible without you – our members. Your ongoing support has allowed us to secure a lease agreement that not only enhances our iconic building but also contributes significantly to the financial sustainability of the Club. Merci’s investment, paired with the Club’s own cooperation, means we are realising a rapid and intensive fit-out and landscaping, creating a stunning new space for the community and a reliable revenue stream for years to come.
The new Mobys will include:
•              A standalone restaurant on Level 6
•              A stylish alfresco café area on the front courtyard, with direct access to the restaurant
•              A refreshed Level 5 hall for private functions and overflow dining
Beyond great food, we believe Mobys will add real value to our members, the Whale Beach community, and the Club’s future.
Stay tuned – we’ll continue to keep you updated as the project progresses. In the meantime, we can’t wait to see you upstairs this summer for a drink, a meal, or simply to soak up the view.
Whale Beach SLSC is taking part in the 24 Hour Row Whale Beach SLSC is taking part in the 24 Hour Row for Gotcha4Life!
From 12pm Saturday 13 September to 12pm Sunday 14 September, our club will row non-stop for 24 hours to raise funds and awareness for Gotcha4Life — a foundation dedicated to building mental fitness and preventing suicide through connection, education, and meaningful mateship.
The best part? Absolutely anyone can row. Whether you row for 5 minutes or 5 hours, every stroke helps the cause.
Come down, cheer us on, or jump on the rower and be part of something truly special for our community.

Whale Beach Needs You: a message from Club Captain Whale Beach Needs You: a message from Club Captain Olivia Rees-Ewen
When I joined Whale Beach SLSC at 16, we had 12 patrols. Today, we’re down to just 7. Last summer, some patrols were rostered three times in five days.
Right now, the average expected hours per patroller sit at 100 hours — that’s attending every single rostered patrol or finding a sub. Last season, only 17 of our 181 active members hit that mark, with many doing 200+ hours to keep the beach open. Their effort was incredible — but it came at a cost: burnout.
This season, we have 93 active members signed up, but many of our most reliable patrollers are stepping back to reserve active because they’re exhausted. That means we urgently need to:
Upskill newer members
Build strong patrols that meet Lifesaving Agreement requirements
Share the workload more evenly
The good news? The club is in a fantastic financial position — we have the resources, gear, and support ready for you. We just need more people on the sand.
How you can help:
Regain proficiency if you’re a retired active or long service member
Join as an award member (First Aid, ART)
Lend a hand at The Big Swim
Sign up for the reserve active group (on call only when patrols are short)
Encourage friends and family to join as active members
Our goal? Rebuild to 12 patrols so we can drop the expected hours from 100 to just 35 per person — keeping patrolling fun, sustainable, and something we’re all proud of.
If you’re a rostered member, please step up this season. Every single hour counts. Together, we can protect our beach, our community, and each other 🐳
